CONGLETON
TOWN FC
2009 / 2010

Mark Fitton -
Position: Centre Half
Age : 23
Place of Birth: Kidsgrove S-O-T
Occupation: Bricklayer
Former Clubs: Kidsgrove Athletic, Nantwich Town, Newcastle Town.
‘Fitz’ is the latest addition to Bucka’s squad and joins us from Newcastle Town. He is a former Cheshire Senior Cup winner and played in the Nantwich side that earned promotion to the Unibond league. Mark says that his best game was for Nantwich against Salford, in the game in which they achieved that promotion.

A Manchester United fan, Mark says that his football icon is Ronaldo. He describes the little Brazilian ace as ‘world class’ which probably accounts for the three world cup winners medals that he has in his bedside cabinet. Oops, hang on a mo, I think he might have meant Christiano Ronaldo..sorry that’s my mistake, it didn’t say Christiano, so I just assumed!!

Off the football pitch, ‘Fitz’ is a real Brit, as he enjoys playing pool and darts and he also states that steak would be part of his favourite meal. An Artic Monkey’s fan, Mark’s ambition in life is to run his own business.

Then, once he’s made his fortunte, Mark says that he wants to take Jordan out to dinner, which is really kind of him as Jordan always looked as though he could do with a good meal when he played here…and he probably needs cheering up since moving to Newcastle.
Andy Bostock -
Position: Left Back
Age : 26
Place of Birth: Stoke-on-Trent
Occupation: Quantity Surveyor
Former Clubs: Crewe, Newcastle Town, Kidsgrove Athletic, Rocester.
‘Boz’ is a rather shy bloke and eludes to very little other than the fact that he is a Midland Alliance league championship winner with former club Rocester and that he is a Stoke City supporter.

He says that his best performances are always reserved for games that he plays against joint manager Darren Twigg. Andy hasn’t named a footballer that he most admires, so we have a sneaky suspicion that ‘Twiggy’ would appear very high up on his list.

Andy’s musical tastes are varied and he describes himself as ‘not fussy’ about food, which probably means he eats just about anything and everything?

Adam Vickers-
Position: Right Back
Age : 28
Place of Birth: Crewe
Occupation: Electrician
Former Clubs: Kidsgrove Athletic, Newcastle Town, Nantwich Town
Vicks’ is a former Staffordshire Senior Cup winner but claims that he cannot remember what his best performance was in a game. His favourite football team is Manchester United and of the many United players he admires, he states that Roy Keane is his absolute hero because he was a winner and a legend.

Father of two boys, he says he spends most of his spare time playing with them, but when relieved of his childcare responsibilities he enjoys a pint or two which he claims is a bit of a hobby. He’s an Oasis fan, and claims his food of choice is a nice spicy Indian.

Adam wants to have fun and be happy in life but didn’t want to reveal any interesting facts about him, preferring instead to comment on which famous celebrity he’d most like to date – Friends star Jennifer Aniston being the ‘lucky’ girl he’d most like to take out to dinner – I guess Mrs. Vickers wouldn’t mind.

Wayne Brotherton -
Position: Centre Half
Age : 28
Place of Birth: Unknown (some place called 9.7.80)!
Occupation: Driver/Fitter
Former Clubs: Port Vale, Biddulph Victoria, Alsager Town, Kidsgrove Athletic.
Wayne has enjoyed success as a Staffordshire Senior Cup and a Cheshire Senior Cup winner. With vast amounts of experience in non-league football he says he’s had far too many good performances to pick out any particular one. Perhaps if he’d won the FA Vase like his great friend and footballing hero Rob ‘I’m an FA Vase winner’ Hackney, he’d be able to remember one?

Already a fans favourite Wayne is most often seen as the player who marshals the back-four and is always vociferous in offering his team-mates advice and lifting them to greater things. A Manchester United fan, Wayne spends his spare time playing golf or spending time in the 19th hole, which is where he participates in his other great passion, the imbibing of intoxicating ales.

Like a true northern lad, Wayne likes his oatcakes, which he describes as his favourite food. His favourite band is Razorlight, one of the top bands on the Indie circuit. Wayne will have to guide the Bears all the way to Wembley if he’s to achieve his ambition in life, which is to be able to tell Rob Hackney that he too is an FA Vase winner.
Carl Nesbitt -
Position: Centre Midfield
Age : 37
Place of Birth: Liverpool
Occupation: Production Operative
Former Clubs: Liverpool, Vauxhall Motors, Northwich Vics, Newcastle Town, Marine.
The grand-daddy of the team, captain ‘Nezza’ belies his years with some dynamic performances on the pitch. If he ever gets fed up of his current nickname, ‘Terrier’ would be a good alternative and sums up his ambition to enjoy life and his claim to hate losing.

A true Scouser, Carl played for Vauxhall Motors in an FA Cup 3rd Round tie against QPR, which they won on penalties. To accompany that truly memorable occasion, he also has ‘loads’ of football honours to mark his extensive career. ‘Nezza’ spurns some Anfield greats like Keegan, Dalglish, Rush and Fowler to name Adam Vickers as his football icon, because he is described as being an animal on the pitch and a Manc off it.

Carl loves sport of all types, and says that his favourite food is Chinese, which is all very believable, far more so than his claim to like Wham. An interesting fact about Nezza is that his Dad once accosted me during a game to claim I was biased against his son, a myth I soon dispelled by producing a programme article written earlier singing his praises.
Ryan Baker -
Position: Midfield
Age : 28
Place of Birth: Chesterfield
Occupation: Teacher
Former Clubs: Crewe Alex, Trafford, Kidsgrove Athletic, Colwyn Bay, Witton Albion, Alsager Town.
‘Bakes’ is a real livewire capable of taking on defenders when played out wide or dictating play from a central position, which makes him a valuable addition to he squad. A former U18 England schoolboy, with 4 caps, he says his best performance was when scoring against Wales in an international.

A ‘Spurs’ supporter, his side isn’t fairing too well this season, which is why he probably opted for former Notts Forest Dutch sensation Bryan Roy as the player he most admires, although he suggests it’s because they are so alike on the pitch (yeah, right!)

Away from football, Ryan enjoys going to the gym and declares he wants to take up badminton. His favourite style of music is hip-hop and he names some artistes that I won’t even try to spell correctly, Wu-tang Clan, Jay-Z and NAS, all notorious gun-toting, drug-running “ne’r do well’s” I bet. Who knows what my uncle Snoop-Doggy thinks of them,

Bakes is another Chinese food fanatic, and says his ambition in life is to be a good Dad. Teaching his kids that his name starts and ends with the same letter is a good start and should increase their phonemic awareness.
Simon Robinson -
Position: Centre Midfield
Age : 24
Place of Birth: Crewe
Occupation: Works with ‘Dozzer’?
Former Clubs: Port Vale, Leek Town, Kidsgrove Athletic, Newcastle Town.
Simon says his nickname is ‘Mongy’ and he brought with him a bit of a reputation for being a head-case which his previous disciplinary record on the pitch seemed to verify. ‘Robbo’ as he’s known here, didn’t endear himself to the Bears’ faithful in his early appearances, being sent-off in two of the first three games he played. Despite this the manager has kept faith in him and it all now seems to be coming good for Simon on the pitch. His control, composure on the ball and distribution from midfield can only be marveled at. We can but hope that ‘Bucka’ has truly tamed the demons in ‘Robbo’s’ game?

To go with his quiet reputation on the pitch, ‘Robbo’ is also quiet off it. All we could glean from his player profile form is that he admires Rob Hackney (or is it just the FA Vase medal that’s so impressive?) and that he likes Oasis. Perhaps he just prefers to let his boots do all the talking, and just recently they’ve been shouting some pretty impressive things.

Andy Hurst-
Centre Forward, 'Hursty' was Born in Stockport in '83– but is now living in Wilmslow. He is a
Business Consultant and previously played for Abbey Hey, Styal FC and Witton Albion - where he was last season. He won the
Cheshire Senior Cup with Witton in 05/06. He is a Stockport County fan and says
Marco Van Bastern was his fave player. He just can't get enough
Spaghetti Bolognase and listens to Indie. Fave film is Crash and away from the pitch likes Golf, Snooker and going out drinking
Stuart Tulloch -
Position: Right Wing/Forward
Age : 26
Place of Birth: Manchester (Moss Side)
Occupation: Site Manager
Former Clubs: Chorley, Salford City, Trafford, Witton Albion, Middlewich, Winsford.
This is ‘Tully’s’ second spell here, but most will remember him causing untold trouble to our defenders playing for Middlewich Town here in November last season (Mid-Cheshire Senior Cup). Fortunately now he is causing the same problems to our opponents.

Stuart’s most memorable game was this season when we played New Mills at Booth Street. Despite losing, Tully says that his chip when he scored was just like Eric Cantona. I’s not surprising to learn then that his favourite team is Manchester United, but it’s not Cantona he names as his idol, but Ryan Giggs, whose dribbling skills with the ball make him a true legend of the game.

Tully enjoys a spot of fishing and plays golf, perhaps combining the two if there’s a lot of on-course water and he loses a lot of balls. He likes Chicken and Chips and listens to Oasis. He says his ambition is to be a pilot, which is far removed from his previous infamy as an adult movie-star. Either way he gets to play with his joystick.
Anthony Buckle
Role: (Joint) Manager
Age : TBC
Place of Birth:
Occupation: Builder
Former Clubs: Joint Manager with Darren Twigg at Kidsgrove Athletic.
Ant, or ‘Bucka’ as he likes to be known, can still be seen occasionally sporting the first-team kit, where he often plays a cameo role once the game has been wrapped up. A former, and youthful, Congleton Town player, Ant has come home so to speak, after being recommended for the position to Pete Evans.

Ant’s post-match verbal assaults when things have not gone according to plan are a thing of legend and yet to see him in the clubhouse after the game, you wouldn’t think him capable of such atrocities.

‘Bucka’ led us to a creditable 9th in his first season here, falling away badly at the end after spending so long in the top six. This season he expects a top four finish and the way things have started, who knows, we could even get promoted.

Darren Twigg
Role: Joint/Assistant Manager
Age : >30 but < 50
Place of Birth: Newcastle-under-Lyme
Occupation: Pottery Manager
Former Clubs: Joint Manager with Anthony Buckle at Kidsgrove Athletic.

When he’s not on the pitch, which he (and many others) are usually thankful of, ‘Twiggy’ can be found in the dressing room picking up the players after a dreadful verbal mauling from his counterpart. Unbelievably the quiet man of the management operation, I’m sure Twiggy does a lot more than he lets on to.

Position: Centre Forward
Age : Experienced (at least 21 several times)
Place of Birth: Newcastle-under-Lyme
Occupation: Pottery Manager
Former Clubs: Eastwood Hanley, Leek Town, Ashton Utd, Witton Albion, Newcastle Town, Kidsgrove Athletic, Nantwich Town.
‘Twiggy’ as we all affectionately know him has a hard reputation on the pitch and a soft one off it. Such levels of schizophrenic behaviour have baffled medical science and no-one knows exactly what chemical activity happens that causes such a transformation. At least he doesn’t tear his own shirts though.

Darren has too many memorable games to recount and too many football honours to remember, however I have learnt from his Mum that there is one that is very special to him. Apparently he scored twice during this game, which his side won 3-1 and swapped signed shirts with the opposition forward after the game. Anyone wishing to see the shirt, signed by Adam, should apply in writing to the Theological Society, to whom Twiggy donated the shirt. The souvenir trophy, winner of the Garden of Eden Over-35’s Cup is still displayed with pride on his mantelpiece.

A Manchester United fan, Darren’s football hero is Mark Hughes, whose all-round ability is what he admires about him most. Playing golf and drinking keep Twiggy out of trouble off the pitch and he enjoys a good curry whilst listening to The Jam, or other such awesome bands. Twiggy claims to have scored for every non-league club he’s ever played for which matches the number of clubs that he’s been booked for.

Name: Andy Ratcliffe
Role: Team Coach
Age : 46
Place of Birth: Baddeley Green, Stoke
Occupation: Service Manager
Former Clubs: Kidsgrove, Eccleshall, Alsager Town, Nantwich Town. Former Assistant Manager at Leek Town.
Congleton fans will recognise ‘Ando’ or ‘Ratty’ from his first spell with the Club; when he was Reserves Team manager under former 1st Team manager Paul Moore. Now a coach Andy was formerly a goalkeeper where his best performance came in a game for a Mid-Staffs Health team over the Fire Service in which he kept a clean sheet and saved a penalty to see his side victorious 1-0.
His favourite football club is Nottingham Forest and his favourite player from that side was Kenny Burns, as Andy would not have liked to have faced him on the pitch. Outside of coaching he plays the guitar and enjoys motor racing. Included in his list of favourite bands are such classic acts as Free and XTC. He likes hot Madras curry, but says you can’t beat the perfectly cooked T-Bone steak.
Andy has played 5-a-side with Alan McAnally when they met on holiday once, but surprised everyone when declaring that his left wrist is a mixture of metal plates and screws.
